Are you the kind of dog owner that wishes you could bring them anywhere? Well some theaters in China are allowing people to bring their dogs to watch Zootopia 2. According to The Straits Times on TikTok, Theaters across several cities, such as Chongqing and Shanghai, rolled out special “bring your pet” sessions, with pets sitting beside their owners like fellow moviegoers. The theaters were even prepared for these special showings. They provided wipes and cleaning pads and they required the moviegoers to clean up after the showing.
Zootopia 2 is the sequel to the 2016 Disney film Zootopia. Zootopia 2 follows Detectives Judy Hopps (a rabbit) and Nick Wilde (a fox) as they find themselves on the twisting trail of a
mysterious reptile who turns the mammal metropolis of Zootopia upside down. Testing their
growing partnership like never before, they go under cover in new parts of town to crack the
case.
From the largest elephant to the smallest shrew, the city of Zootopia is a mammal metropolis
where various animals live and thrive so if there was ever a movie to go to with your dog, its
Zootopia 2.
I am someone who absolutely loves their dog. I have a wonderful 14 year old Golden Retriever, Lab, Chow, Husky mix named Rosie. She is the sweetest and most easy going dog ever. I love my dog so much and I am someone who wishes I could bring her everywhere. I even wish I could text my dog so if I had the opportunity to take her to a movie, I would.
However, I love the moviegoing experience. And I honestly, I feel like a lot of movie theater etiquette has gone out the window for a lot of people over the last few years.
People have been checking their phone or texting regularly. I’ve even seen people playing games on their phone. I have experienced people talking during the movie. Not just whispering, but full on, full volume conversations. Not to mention events where people are purposefully disruptive like during showings of A Minecraft Movie during this past summer.
So if I walked into a normal showing and it had dogs and cats in there making noise during the movie, I would not necessarily be happy.
I want the theatergoing experience to be quiet and without any distractions. Respect the people around you. The key phrase for this story is “special ‘bring your pet’ sessions”. If people were showing up with animals and the theater was unprepared but allowed it anyway, as a film fan, I would have to be against it. But these theaters are handling it the right way. They are prepared before hand by having wipes and pads for the dogs and by requiring the owners to clean up afterwards. They also have these showings as a specific pet friendly showing so you know what you are getting yourself into.
If I had the opportunity to go to a specific pet friendly showing, I would absolutely do so and bring Rosie.
Zootopia 2 is currently past the $600 million mark at the global box office and it has achieved
the highest global animated opening of all time at $559.5M, the highest global debut of 2025, and the highest global opening ever for Walt Disney Animation Studios. That is just a few of the records broken by Zootopia 2 at the worldwide box office and Disney potentially has some furry friends to thank for that.
