Woodland Creature In High Point?!?

When thinking of High Point, North Carolina, I wouldn't say it's the most "outdoorsy" place in the state. It's got it's trails, lakes, and portions remaining of undeveloped land. But it's not the destination, even within our state, that people looking to get out into wide-open spaces and take in the serenity of nature, choose to go to.

Little Switzerland? Yes.

Blowing Rock? Yes.

Parts of the Outer Banks? Yes.

As you make your way around High Point, running from Target to Hobby Lobby, you're probably not thinking of creatures that live in mountainous and woody spaces.

We're not talking about the Bigfoot, for those that choose to hunt him. But we are going to be talking about something that has literally a big foot, and lives in the woods.

Not sure who's fitting the bill for this one, but High Point has chosen to join the many other locations to house it's own giant "troll".

If you've never witnessed these before, they generally are large structures, covered externally in wood, that are in various positions, as an "art structure", and at-best a photo-op.

The news from Visit High Point, lists the biggest mystery around it's troll to be the location you will be able to find it. Not sure they've revealed clues yet, but there's really only TWO places we could see this making sense:

One of those would be the High Point Children's Museum.

In my opinion, it's unlikely that some outside artist would be able to fit his inspiration of a troll in the framework of the great facility that was developed by the Qubein family. However, it would be an acceptable location solely based on the fact that kids would find this large structure to be entertaining.

The other location would be at the Piedmont Environmental Center off Penny Rd.

Logically, it's really the ONLY place I can think of where there's still some wooded areas, surrounded by walking trails, and near the City Lake.

They are a cool piece of art, and I'm positive the work that goes into them is very tedious. I just don't see how it fits into a direction the city needs to be putting it's emphasis. And I'm sure it's not free.

I'm just happy I don't pay High Point city taxes.
