Halloween At Oak Hollow

The 90's are now 30+ years in the rearview. To say things have changed.... Ya think?!?
There are a lot of things that the adolescent youth of today will never understand or experience. CD's, corded phones, dial-up internet, VHS tapes, drive-in theatres, and more. The idea that we didn't have Amazon, or that it was just a vessel to sell books, is hard for my own kids to fathom.
Remember when you actually had to leave your house to go shopping?
The shift away from what used to be a past-time, has killed off facilities across the country. Malls are becoming extinct.
Right here at home, in High Point, NC, the Oak Hollow Mall was a facility that was somewhat "groundbreaking" for the area. HP citizens no longer had to leave the city to head to Winston or Greensboro for the nearest mall. It had restaurants, a food court, the most desired stores for that time, and even a movie theater.
Despite all it had going for it -- times change. Oak Hollow's doors were officially shut March 10, 2017.
Then this video (seen above) popped up on IG. Say what you will about breaking and entering, but it's a unique look that many otherwise wouldn't ever see. And I've seen these of other abandoned buildings before, but it's insane to see it of a building that you've personally spent times visiting.
A few quick notes that the content creator missed on: the HPU security cars weren't abandoned, the nutcrackers weren't ever used at Oak Hollow and are really stored by the University in space they now own, and there's still a part of the space that is used as a "community space" other than Dillards.
In prep for Halloween, what the videographer did get right is that Oak Hollow now looks apocalyptic.
It's crazy how memories come flooding back, seeing differing angles of the space again. It's sad to see ceilings caving in. It's also bizarre how I never realized how beautiful some of the architecture of the building really was.
What could have been one more slice of Sbarro. One more visit to Steve & Barry's.
Now it seems like a haunted destination of forgotten reminiscence.
