A State For Hockey

For the first time in 20 years, professional hockey returned to Greensboro with the Inaugural Gargoyles game on Saturday (Oct. 18). In-front of 11,398 fans inside of the "Greensboro Coliseum" (I refuse to acknowledge it's new name), the team sent the game to OT before falling 2-1.
Despite the loss, there was a lot of history made here. And we don't want you to feel left out, so here's a shot of the first ever Gargoyles goal scored at home:
Several things to say here....
Is NC becoming a serious state for hockey?!?! The Carolina Hurricanes are currently the ONLY undefeated team in the NHL, and now Greensboro has a team back in the Canes' original home when they moved to the state.
We're also partial to these uni's, cause I DIG the purple with black (wink, wink)!
And props to all the fans that did make it out for this first game. I hope it stays up throughout the season. Head Coach Scott Burt even gave a nod to the support saying,
"It’s loud in here and it energizes our guys. That’s what we want. We’re here to build this brand and we’re here to win."
Finally, if you have much experience with the ECHL, the league the Gargoyles play in, then you'd know these guys don't mind dropping the mitts everyone once in a while. Who doesn't love a good hockey fight?!?!
